Fashion Fighting Famine 2012
featuring the hottest trends in modest Muslim fashion

(Orange County, CA)- Fashion Fighting Famine’s fifth annual, summer fashion show will be held on Sunday, June 3, 2012, on the campus of the University of California, Irvine. The large-scale event will features the hottest trends in modest, Muslim fashion with a portion of the proceeds benefiting One Laptop Per Child.

Among this year’s buzzed-about designers include: SixteenR, Vela Scarves, Marena Y Sol, Hijabista, Rana Greiche Couture, Abaya Addict, and Mohajababes. By hosting this event, Fashion Fighting Famine aims to be the leading inspiration in American Muslim couture.

“We aim to be the ultimate resource for anyone designing with a conservative look in mind,” said Asmaa Hassanein, creative director for Fashion Fighting Famine. “We are proud to have the opportunity to benefit such a deserving and relevant charity such as One Laptop Per Child.”

One Laptop Per Child is a nonprofit organization that seeks to provide children all over the world with the educational tools they deserve. It has designed a laptop that fully functions in the most remote regions of the world, with Internet service, powered by batteries and solar power. By containing software that continually updates, each $199 laptop provides a child with years of education in a developing country. The organization currently serves more than 2 million children, mostly in Latin America.

This year’s event, scheduled for 4-10 p.m. at UCI’s Pacific Ballroom, is expected to attract 1,000 attendees from all around Southern California, reflecting a steady annual attendance increase.   Following the main fashion show, guests will have an opportunity to purchase items featured on the runway and other high-end products sold by local Muslim businesses in the “Shop for a Cause” bazaar.

Fashion Fighting Famine (FFF) was founded in 2007 by a group of Muslim young women attending the University of California, Irvine. Inspired by their desire to support charity in a unique way, they organized Fashion Fighting Famine, a charity fashion show featuring local designers and talent, converging in an evening of fashion and theatrical performances. Since then, FFF’s local presence and contribution have only expanded, with nearly $30,000 raised for charities all around the world.
